Rite Aid Update

If you live in the Rochester area, you may have noticed a second Rite Aid ad. I am not sure if other cities are getting these too. The ad says something about wanting to be your family pharmacy.

I was very excited because some Kelloggs cereals were BOGO free this week according to the regular ad. And the special ad said that some Kelloggs cereal were $1.77. So I was hoping that both deals might be happening. Well, for anyone else wondering.... You only get the $1.77 price. This is still pretty good paired with a $1/2 coupon making each box of cereal $1.27.

There were other good deals as well including $0.25 candy bars and $0.99 no-nonsense pantyhose.

Target Trip

I don't often shop at Target because it is just too far away from our house. However, I couldn't pass up this deal. We are going to be dog sitting for a few months. And the dog eats Pedigree. Right now the small bags (3.5lb) are on sale 2/$8 and there was a $3/1 coupon that came out a while ago in certain areas. That makes each bag $1. At that price I grabbed 6 bags. So that is 21 lbs of dog food for just $6!!!

Please note, my area did not get the coupon. I had to trade on AFC to get them... But I have heard that there are printable $3 coupons as well. In addition there is a deal going on with the larger bags as well where you can earn a gift card after purchase. I am not sure of all the details because it was a more expensive route, but I know Shannon posted about it on FTM.

For more great Target deals check out totallytarget.com

Stork Brokers

If your house is like mine, then you might have too much kids stuff everywhere. There are many things that you could do with this unwanted stuff. I usually give away to someone else in need, but maybe some of you would like to make some cash from these items. Bzzagent just sent me info on a particular company that offers one way of making money off these items. It is called Stork Brokers.

StorkBrokers

Their mission - to help parents find new value in their kids' old things.

According to their webpage this is a place for digital dads and savvy moms looking to make great deals and maybe some extra cash.

"Ah, kids — they grow up so fast! Which means they grow out of stuff fast, too. So what can you do with their toys, clothes and accessories after they’ve moved on to something new? Sell them on StorkBrokers.com and find new value in your kids’ old things. Then when it’s time to restart the cycle, know you can find the stuff you need at reasonable prices right here, too. Sell, shop, save! If only every part of parenting was this easy."

Now, I went to the website to try and find out more. It doesn't cost to join. And if your item doesn't sell you don't pay either. I did see that there is a 6% flat rate on any item that does actually sell... I searched and couldn't find anything about shipping costs.... So this program isn't totally free, but might be easier than running a garage sale for some of us. And would make money for those of you that need extra cash. SoI am not totally sold, but still interested to find out more.

What do you think? What do you do with your unwanted stuff?

Sample Showcase

Would you like a box full of great samples? The Sample Showcase has returned! I received this freebie last summer. It was wonderful. There are snacks, chocolate, and even beauty products to try. You can sign up here.

Book Review: The Treasure Principle

Each time I receive a book to review, I honestly feel that God has hand picked these books with a special message for me and my family. And this book was no exception to that rule. I was sent The Treasure Principle by Randy Alcorn.

To put it simply, this book is about "the joy of giving." In Acts 20:35, the Bible says, "The Lord Jesus himself said: 'It is more blessed to give than to receive.'" According to Alcorn, nothing in this world is truly ours. Instead, the money, gifts, talents, material possession, etc. were all given to us by God for us to do God's will. So with that mentality, if God has blessed us with something we should use it to help others. Throughout the book, Alcorn lays out the six keys to the treasure principle and explains using scripture why he believes this is Gods calling to all of us. Alcorn challenges his readers to not only give, but to give beyond our ability.

I really enjoyed this book. It was a fast and easy read that provoked my thinking and motivated me to change the way I think about tithing and giving. The book is very short and I do wish that there was a little bit more to the book. I loved the words that Randy Alcorn uses to show why it is so important that we give, but in these economic times I think it would be nice to give some suggestions on how to get started (ie different organizations and there contact info that are legitimate). Alcorn also mentioned why it was so important to stay out of debt so that you are able to continue to give. Well, what about those of us that are already in debt? Should we be giving more or getting ourselves out of debt? Overall, this book was excellent and I would recommend that anyone and everyone read it!

The Blogging for Books program, through Waterbrook Multnomah Press, was kind enough to send me yet another free book in exchange for my honest review.

Coupons, Coupons, Coupons

If you are new to couponing, you might wonder where in the world to start.

My first introduction to coupons was through the Sunday paper. The coupons are located in the advertisements. There can be any where from 0 to 3 or more inserts. The inserts have titles like Redplum, Smart Source, P&G. You may even be one of the lucky ones that gets these inserts in local papers delivered during the week. Some websites post a list of coupons that are planned for each Sunday's paper. This can be helpful, but you may or may not get the coupons listed. It depends on your location.

There are also coupons in the actual stores. You may hear couponers talk about tear pads. This would be a pad of couponers located near an item in the store ready for consumers to take one and use on the current purchase. Stores may even have coupons attached to the product itself. And you can use these coupons on the purchase you are making them. If the coupon is located inside the package it is usually assumed that you can use it the next time you purchase the product.

You can print coupons from your computer. When I began couponing, it never dawned on me that there would be people out there creating fake coupons. Fake coupons hurt the couponing world and the stores and businesses that can not be refunded the value of these coupons. To keep from getting a fake coupon I stick to the most reputable print sites: redplum.com, smartsource.com, and coupons.com. You are able to print 2 coupons for the same product from these sites. It is not ok to photo copy coupons. Each coupon printed has a special code that proves that it is a unique copy. I am sure that you can picture what would happen if you were allowed to make as many photo copies of a high value coupon as you wanted. Shelves would be cleared and the companies making the coupon could possibly lose a lot of money which could in turn cause that company and many others to stop issuing coupons.

If you can't find a coupon you are looking for in a Sunday insert, on the coupon sites, or in the store there are a couple of other options. You can go to the product's website and search for a coupons or sepcial promotion tab. I have had a ton of luck with this. You can write to the company. If it is a product that our family really likes, I write and tell them why we like it. Generally, I've found that companies love to hear the compliments and have been very generous by sending me coupons to use on my next purchase. I usually send them an email to share my thoughts in the "Contact Us" section of the product's webpage. be sure to stay positive and never expect to get a coupon. Instead, I try to plan on getting nothing in return so that I am pleasantly surprised when I get coupons in my mailbox.

Did you hear about a great coupon but didn't get it in your insert or area? You might think about trading or buying the coupon. I like trading rather than buying because the idea of coupons is to save money. So the more money I have to spend on coupons, the less I've saved. I have traded on AFC a few times and have always had a good trade. I have never purchased coupons but have heard good things about Dede's coupons and things.

And the last place I look for coupons is in magazines. There is All You, which is magazine filled with exceptional coupons and money saving ideas. Or you can look in everyday magazines like Woman's Day, Better Homes and Gardens, Shape, etc.

If you are wondering if there is a coupon out there some great websites have coupon databases. I usually use the one on FTM. You can check it out here. You just type in the product name and search. If there is a coupon out there somewhere it will most likely be mentioned there.

Do you have other questions about couponing? Please leave them in the comments so that I can help answer them!!

Nutella Mommy Party

I was very excited to be chosen to host a Nutella Mommy Party, thanks to MommyParties.

I was sent a full size container of Nutella and samples for 10 guests. I had never tried Nutella before and was very interested to finally taste this product that so many had been telling me about. And I was excited to share it with friends.

The recipe cards included shared some easy ways to include Nutella into your breakfast. The pictures look delicious too. There was Nutella on waffles, english muffins and whole grain bread. Since my mommy party was not taking place in the morning, I tried to come up with other ways to use this yummy product. There is actually a website full of recipes for Nutella Day (Feb 5) that you can see here. I picked out a few for my guests to enjoy and I want to share them with you too. You can click on the links to get the recipes and directions.

banana muffins with nutella frosting

(I loved the muffins, but did not end up using the frosting recipe. I made it and not even my hubby would eat it, so I had to try another recipe.)

nutella and raspberry sandwiches (this one is on one of my favorite cooking blogs!)

fruit and nutella smoothies

I was simply amazed at all the different ways that you can use Nutella. But I would recommmend just eating it plan the first time you try it... on a spoon. My students told me it was like chocolate and peanut butter. When I sampled this I didn't quite agree... it is really a flavor unlike any other. It isn't something I could eat all the time. It is a very unique taste.

My guests and I even tried it on fruit.

You can find out more about Nutella here. There are tips for moms, a store locator, and even a $1 off coupon.

Have you tried Nutella?

What are your favorite ways to use it?

Book Review: Love Food & Live Well

I recently received Love Food & Live Well, by Chantel Hobbs, the author of Never Say Diet. I was sent this book for free from the Blogging for Books program through Waterbrook Multnomah Press in return for my honest review.

Are you looking to lose weight? Have you spent years losing and then gaining it back and maybe more? Chantel is with you. She spent most of her adult life trying to lose 200 pounds. She tried everything to do it too. And none of it worked. Until now. She has a "deal" that has kept her 200 pounds off for the last 10 years. And it isn't a magic pill, it isn't 5 hours of exercising each day. In fact, it is probably something you would never have guessed.... She says to stop trying to control your life, and give it to God. It was a surprising solution that I was not expecting.

Through the chapters of Love Food and Live Well, Chantel shows a step by step guide of how she finally put God in control of her life and began to love herself again. Now, you might be thinking, "Well God isn't going to just hit me with lightning and make me thin again..." And you're right! Chantel does share the hard steps that she took to get those 200 pounds off. And she shares what agony she went through after losing the weight as she began to obsess about the weight loss and exercise. But she was able to do with God's help. And she shares what that means and looks like for each one of us.

The first half of the book is geared to getting your heart and soul in the right place to be able to let God in and let you change. She says that this is the most important part of making this "deal" work and keep working. Then she shares her food and exercise tips for getting you started. I love the 80/20 rule. She explains about the different types of food that your body needs. And you should eat that food 80% of the time. But no one wants to give up everything tasty and delicious for the rest of their lives. That is where the other 20% comes in. It is a glorious plan that allows you to keep enjoying food in a healthy way.

Chantel Hobbs has a very easy to read and funny approach to weight loss and life. Her writing was entertaining yet educational. I would encourage anyone struggling with weight loss to read this book. I would also encourage others that my be dealing with other obsessive thoughts and behaviors to read the first half of this book as she shares how she got right with God and has let Him lead her life. She had powerful words that could help us all.

Purex Complete Crystals

Have you seen the new Purex Complete Crystals? They are a great alternative to liquid fabric softeners. As a Purex Insider, I was sent the sample pictured above, a coupon, and some info about the product.

I had no idea that liquid fabric softeners had oil in them that was taking the life out of my clothes. The new product from Purex is 92% natural crystals. Plus, Purex crystals have a scent that will last longer than your typical softener. Now I am going to be honest. When I first used the crystals, I thought that the scent was a bit too much. You open the bottle and it hits you, pretty hard. So I was nervous that the clothes would be too smelly when they came out. I was pleasantly surprised to find that the clothes were not too smelly at all. The scent was similar to typical fabric softeners and the laundry felt very soft. You add it to the laundry right at the beginning. So there is nothing to remember to add later on either. Overall, I was pleased with the crystals and their performance.

You can go here to the Purex website for more information. While you are there you can click on promotions to get a coupon for the 3 in 1 laundry sheets or a link to a facebook coupon for the Crystals.

Plus, every click that visits the Purex website gets me closer to winning a small competition that Purex has put on for their Insiders. I would greatly appreciate your help!!!!!!!!

Coming soon: A review of the new Purex with Zout!!!

I was sent the Purex Crystals for free as a Purex Insider. I was not compensated for my review but I was sent a coupon for a free bottle of regular size. All opinions are 100% mine!

Rite Aid Stop

I did stop at Rite Aid last week although I didn't post a pic. The only thing that I got were some Valenin'e candy at 75% off. My favorite store had some M&Ms at $0.99 each. I had $1.50/2 coupons making them around $0.25 each. None of the other stores I checked had M&Ms left so I didn't think it was worth posting.

I stopped again this week. One trip I bought diapers with some +ups that were expiring, the $2 coupon, and a $3 off $15 coupon from the survey on a receipt.

I made another trip and got the pictured stuff:

2 Ester-C to go $5.99 BOGO
used 2-$3 off coupons and $2 VV coupon
I think I got back $1 +up
2 Reeses Mini 2/$5
used $2 off coupon
$1 VV off anything
got back $1 +up
King Size Candy $1.59 BOGO
used BOGO coupon for the Hershey's or Reeses
$0.50/2 Reeses VV coupon
I can't remember what I paid out of pocket, but it was next to nothing...

Cheap Pasta and a favor to ask...

If you like Ronzoni, my Wal-mart has them posted at $1.08. There are $1/2 for the Smart Taste (purple box). That makes them $0.58 each. There is also $1/1 for the Garden Delight making them $0.08....

So here is the favor I ask, if anyone out there has these coupons and isn't going to use them, I'd love to trade with you!!! They expire at the end of March and I believe they were in the 1/23 SS. So let me know if you have them and what you'd want for them in return. You can leave it in the comments or e-mail me at debbydeluxe@yahoo.com
Thanks!!!!

Couple quick Wegmans deals

My grades are due this week in case anyone has wondered where I am.... SO things will get back to normal soon.

Picture should be up tonight.

I went to Wegmans on Sunday for a few groceries. Here are some of the things I noticed:

1.) Snapple 6 packs had rebate forms taped to them. If you have the $1/1 coupon this could make a nice deal

2.) phili cooking creme 2/$4
use the $1.50 in the 3/6 insert to make $0.50

3.) Reese mini drops 2/$5
use the $2 off coupon to make them $1.50 each

4.) Purex 3in1 $4.99
use $3 off coupon to make $1.99

5.) Raisin Bran Crunch 2/$5
use 2 - $0.70 from Kelloggs.com *doubled*
makes these $1.10 each
****Plus some of the boxes had a coupon for $1 off fresh fruit when you buy 2 cereals. That could mean free 2lbs of bananas at $0.49/lb
Don't forget that Cheez-its are still on sale 2/$4. You can use the $1/2 to make them $1.50 each
Wegmans canned veggies are $0.39 each. The Wegmans diapers are $6.49. I used a $3 off coupon to make them $3.49.
The Campbell's soups are not on sale. They are $1.59. But since the coupon I used ($0.50/2) can be doubled, I got them at $1.09 each. This isn't a great price, but a good one for us to have on hand for quick meals.

I will have more match-ups as soon as I get my work done!!!!!!!!

Book Review: Plain Wisdom

Waterbrook Multnomah sent me this book for free to review through their blogging for books program.

Please note that this has nothing to do with saving money.

I was very excited for the early chance to read Plain Wisdom by Cindy Woodsmall and Miriam Flaud. The book is not released until March 15th.

Plain Wisdom is a story about two worlds coming together through a friendship. Miriam is an Old Order Amish and Cindy is a novelist whose stories often have an Amish connection. I believe that Cindy meets Miriam as she is trying to write a new novel. She and her youngest son start visiting Miriam and her family to get a taste of the Amish lifestyle. As the two begin their visits the ladies realize that they have more in common than they thought.

The book is broken up into little chapters almost like devotionals. In each chapter a little bit of their lives is uncovered. I love these stories because they are filled with encouragement, faith, honesty, and hope. Each "recollection, unexpected insight, and humouraous tale" reminded me that each season of life brings its stresses and joys. Most importantly it reminded me to enjoy each season of life and live it through God.

I loved this book. It is sprinkled with recipes and know how from the Amish way of living and a glimpse into a life that really isn't that different than my own. The book was great for a rainy Saturday afternoon or just a chapter each morning to reflect and pray upon. Any way you put it, this book was uplifting and comoforting. I would recommend it to any mom or woman that just wants something good to read.

New Coupon Giveaway

I am sorry that I haven't posted in a while. I haven't bought much, but do have some more match-ups for Wegmans coming. And Rite Aid has been kind of slow. I don't have the out of pocket to really buy things we don't need, just because they are cheap... I am sure you know how that goes.

Anyways, there are two things that I wanted to share.

1.) Congrats to Stephani for winning the Cheerio giveaway!!!!

2.) I have some diaper/baby coupons I don't need. And I'd love to share them with you. So for the next week (Until 3/14 - Pi Day... hehe) you can leave a comment for some coupons if you want them. on Monday I'll randomly pick the winners. Be sure that you are following Deal-licious Debby and that you mention which coupons you want.

I have:

1 code for Amazon (I can't remember if it is $10 off or 10% from a baby magazine...)

Wegmans coupons $3 off diapers

Huggies coupons.... from inserts and mailers... $2- $2.50 off depending on style

$5 off Similac Coupons

All coupons and codes expire around 3/26-3/31.

Wegmans:Clearance Find

I took the kids on a little road trip over the break to visit family. If you've ever taken small babes anywhere in the car, then you probably know how difficult it can be to keep them happy. So I tried to find some "new" things that would interest them.

In the office supply aisle at Wegmans, I found these marker and coloring sheet sets for $1.92. There were also some paint by number kits for the same price.

Above that shelf was some Mickey and Cars marker kits with 80 coloring sheets for $3.92.

I know that the Toy Story and Princess stuff I posted before went fast, so if you're interested I'd go soon...
