Rite Aid ideas for this week...

I have been really bummed with the Rite Aid deals lately. How about you?

I have already purchased $15 worth of Tylenol Precise (for free after coupons) for the Weekend Warrior deal. (Buy $25 worth of participating products and get $10 in +ups). And I also went into the week with no +ups because all of mine expired that week. And I used them to buy cereal and pampers.

So here are my two goals:
1.) Earn the $10 +up for as little oop as possible
2.) earn some +ups to use for next time
3.) get some soda because hubby keeps drinking it and I like to have back up for migraines!!!!

So this is what I did:

Transaction #1
bought 4 caress bodywashes 4/$10
bought bengay (part of weekend warrior) $5.99 ($5.40 after my discount)

Total $15.40

I used $3 off $15 from receipt survey
4 - $1 off Caress from 5/22 RP
1 - $3 off Bengay from 5/22
1- $2 off Bengay from the RA ad

So then I paid $3.40 + tax. And I got back a $3 +up for the bodywash. (almost like paying $0.40 for all)

Transaction #2

3 - coke 12 pks $10.98
1 - Bengay $5.40 after discount

Total $16.38 plus tax and deposit

I used $3 off $15
$3 and $2 off bengay as mentioned before
$3 +up from previous transaction

I paid $7.38 plus tax and deposit. I got back $2 for the Coke and $10 for the weekend warrior because I reached the $25 mark.

I also grabbed the coppertone in a transaction I did on Sunday. It wasn't great, but the hubby was complaining about using baby or kid sunlotion while at work. And he wanted a spray so that he could get his back easier. So after telling him I thought he was silly, I gave in.

Coppertone BOGO 50% off
I bought 2 at 10.49 and $5.24
The register also took my 10% off -$1.57

I used $3 off $15
2 - $1 off from coupons.com
2 - $2 off Rite Aid printables (I found two different one at iheartriteaid.com)

Pay $5.16 plus tax.

How did you do?

Frugal Fun: Free Bowling All Summer LONG

Here is a great deal just in time for summer. AMF is offering 2 free bowling games per kid per day this summer. This great opportunity starts May 30 and extends to September 5. It is available 7 days a week and until 8pm. I think this is a great idea for rainy days, too hot to play days, or just when you need a change of scenery.

You can see if there are locations near you by going here. I just checked my zip code and there were at least 3 places near me!!!

There is a deal for adults as well. I think 4 adults can play all summer for $27.95. I should double check this, but I think it is close to the actual number.

So go sign up now. Then every Sunday you will be emailed coupons for the week. And then have some fun.

**Bowling shoes are not included :( **

Wegmans Revlon deal

I am not sure that this deal will work everywhere, but it did work at my Wegmans.

I bought 2 Revlon nail enamels for $2.99 each on sale and the cute bag that was free with the purchase of "two Revlon color cosmetic items." Because this same wording is on the $2 off Revlon coupon that came in the 5/8 SS insert and the picture of the ad at Wegmans had nail polish in it the manager and cashier decided that the deal and the coupons did include the nail polish.

So basically I got each nail polish for $0.99 and the bag for free!

Wegmans: Free Cortaid & cheap San J

I posted about this earlier in the day, but decided to try it for my self. And it all worked out perfectly.

If you missed it, here is the deal:

Cortaid anti-itch cream 1 oz marked down to $2.99
use the $3/1 from the 5/15 RP
makes this free

San -J Asian cooking sauce on clearance for $1.49
use $0.55/1 from mambosprouts
doubles to make this $0.39

"What are you doing?"

Yes, this is my little 2 year old love. Yes, he has my coupons. And yes he also has my scissors. (I took them away before I took the picture.)

I was distracted for a moment and set my materials down in a not very smart place. So my wonderful little man decided he would help mommy. He only destroyed 2 coupons and they were ones that I wasn't planning on using, thank goodness. The last time I found him doing this he cut up a Rite Aid $1/1 Video Value coupon. And if you know me, my RA coupons are like gold. But I couldn't be mad because I either laid them somewhere he could get to or he found a way to climb to them.

2 year old boys are so fast!!!

A couple Wegmans deals

Besides the Ivory bodywash deal, most of the other freebie deals are over (like the oral b toothbrushes and bandaids). So I roamed the store looking to see what else I might come up with while picking up some groceries yesterday. Here are a couple things that I saw:

Bar S hotdaog $0.99 each
use $1/2 from 5/22 insert
makes these $0.49 each

or grab the Bar S bologna $1.49
use the $1/2 from 5/22
makes this $0.99 each

Cortaid anti -itch cream $2.99
use the $3 off coupon from 5/15 RP
makes this free

San -J asian cooking sauce $1.49 (on clearance)
use $0.55/1 mambo sprouts IP
doubles to make it $0.39 each

I have a page of notes that I wrote but forgot to bring with me, so more updates are coming.

Walmart Stop

I got all the  items for $8.32!!!!

1 Digiorno Frozen Pizza $2.98
used $1/1 5/15
makes this $1.98

1 Red Barron Froxen Singles $2.88
used $1/1 from coupons.com
makes this $1.88

2 Miracle Whips $2.50 each
used 2- $1/1
makes these $1.50 each

2 Catalina Dressing $1.68 each
used $1.50/2
makes this $0.93 each

3 Oscar Mayer Selects $1.68
used 3- $1/1 from
makes these $0.68 each

12 Reach Floss $0.88 each
used 2 - $2.50/2
used 8 - $1/1
makes these free plus $2.44 in overage to pay for other stuff

I had  coupons for other items that I thought would be money makers, but the prices at my Walmart were different than the ones I saw posted on other forums. I'll keep you posted if I find anything else that will make overage.

Have you found any great deals at Walmart????

Anyone else feeling like the deals at Rite Aid have been a little slow lately?????

How did you do this week?

Fruit2day

Here is a smartsource coupon for $0.45/1 for Fruit2Day. These are regularly $1.69 at Wegmans. So after the coupon doubles it is $0.79 each. I might wait and see if I can find on sale to make the savings even better.

Another Regal Coupons

Here is another coupon if you are headed to the movies this weekend!

Did anyone use the coupon from last week? I'm wondering if the Rochester area cinemas accepted it...

We don't often go to the movies because it can be so expensive. I have been to the movies about 3 times in the past 5 years. But my daughter is super excited about the Pirates of the Caribbean movie that opens tomorrow. So we plan to use this coupon, go to a matinee, and I have a movie card for the theater where you can get points towards free stuff or discounted snacks. We also usually pack our own snacks so that when the popcorn runs out my love has something else to munch on. My little love gets excited about the popcorn. Since it is such a special treat to go we save up to splurge while we are there. And actually, I don't get to go. It is a father -daughter date. But that is ok with me. I can wait to rent for free.

How do you keep your outings within budget?

New to "extreme couponing"?

Are you new to extreme couponing?

I say "extreme couponing" hesitantly because I am by no means anything like the people on the show. I cannot buy $1000 worth of groceries for $10. And I have a full time job, so I can't spend 60 hours a week planning and shopping. I wish that I could, but I think my hubby might go crazy.

For most people, coupons come in the Sunday paper. They clip a couple they think they will use and throw out the rest Sunday afternoon. This is where I started. I never thought about couponing as  more than a little chore I did each Sunday afternoon.

When things changed for my family and I had to find a way to feed us on very little money while still putting a diaper on the babe's butt, I turned to the internet for help. And that was when I learned about extreme couponing. Well, really it was learning to be smarter with my money and wiser about how to shop.

Here are a couple of things that I learned and wanted to share with you:

1.) Couponing works when you can start to buy ahead.
This was hard when I had no money, but here and there when I found items on sale I would buy more than we would use for the week. In fact, I tried to buy enough to last us months or atleast until it would go on sale again espeically if I was able to get it free. In my area some items go on sale in regular intervals, some do not. I didn't really know the schedule, so I would buy what would work in our budget. And of course these were items that wouldn't go bad in the pantry. So if you ever look and wonder why I didn't buy shampoo in weeks, it was because I bought a ton of it when I could get it for free. Right now I am loading up on toothbrushes, toothpastes, and bodywashes. I won't need some of these for at least a year.
If you really honestly want couponing to save you money this is the biggest part. You stop paying full price for items you use all the time. Instead of running to the store when you run out of something you need to be able to go to your stockpile or pantry where you got your items on sale or maybe free.

2.) Sometimes buying the biggest package isn't the best deal.
I grew up being taught to calculate the unit price and base my purchase that way. That is fine if you have one coupon and are buying one item. But to really maximize the savings I will now try to get as many coupons as I can to buy whatever size will get me the product for as close to free as possible. So somtimes I will buy 15 bottles of dish soap for free in the smallest size available are instead of 1 or 2 bottles at $3 a pop. It takes up more space and feels wasteful to use all the packaging materials, but for now it is free and that is what my family needs.

3.) Sometimes you have to buy things you won't use.
This is true many if you're playing the drug store game. I try not to do it too much. But you may see me buy a bottle of medicine to help you sleep or baby formula. If it does help get my out of pocket cost closer to zero I will pick it up. And then I quickly find a home for the product with someone who will use it.
I often buy these items at stores that allow overage (where your coupon is for more than the price and you get the remainder to put towards your other groceries) or when the coupon will make it free and I am trying to get to a certain total like $15 so that I can use a $3 off $15 coupon. I do this a lot a Rite Aid. If my total is at $15 and some of the items are free, that $3 coupon helps pay for the items I really need but aren't free.

Wegmans Stop

I did really great at Wegmans this weekend. I saved about $90. I spent around $100. So my oop is still pretty high compared to some, but this is good for us. Plus I am in stock up mode for summer. I don't get a paycheck during the summer months. So I try to get as much of the prepackaged types of things that we might need. Plus I freeze meat in advance as well.

Now obviously these items pictured are not the only things that I purchased. I bought tons of veggies. My supply from the garden is almost out and I needed some items that we don't grow. Plus I bought a club pack of chicken and ground beef (be sure to print the $1 off $5 for meat). So a hefty portion of my total goes to the produce and meat!!!

A couple new coupons... and why I've been missing!

If you head over to coupons.com there should be $0.75/1 hormel compleats and also $0.75/1 Little Debbie Cloud Cakes.

These items aren't on sale at Wegmans right now, but paired with a sale you should be able to get really cheap!

And if you wonder where I've been.... #1 I had to get a new car. If you know me personally then you know that a couple months ago my hubby lost his job and then my car broke down beyond fixing. This past week he found a great new job, but there was no way we could make it to both of or positions in separate directions and drop off the babes with one vehicle. So I've been busy! In a good way!!
#2 - This week is the NYS Math Assessment that my students and I have been preparing for all year. So this is a busy week with all of the bits and peices finally coming together.

I hope that you are having a great week and when I finally get to go shopping I will give you some updates!

Wegmans Giveaway & News

First of all, I am sure that anyone that reads this knows that I love Wegmans. One of the reasons I love them so much is their easy to use website with information on every product they sell, from sizes and flavors to prices and actual store aisles. Since the weekly adviretisement does not contain the sale items (and it couldn't possibly hold them all without being a book anyways) I use the website to check prices and even length of the sales.

The Wegmans website also contains a feature where you can create your own shopping list. Wegmans has been working hard to improve the "Shopping List" feature on their website. And I am super excited about some of the new features. First, let me mention that you can set up your list based on aisle. This will be a huge time saver. I make my grocery list by section of the store. But now, to even get it down to the aisle?!?!? This will be huge for me when I am shopping with 2 little ones that are huge distractions. I can go down each aisle and be sure to get everything on my list.

You can also update your shopping list with your phone or other mobile device. They are printer friendly. And you still have the option to quickly add the items that you buy all the time like milk, eggs, bread, etc.

To celebrate, Wegmans has a giveaway going on right now. All you have to do is sign in or create an account. Then build or update your shopping list to be entered. Yep, it is that easy. I believe you have until 5/28 to check out all the features.

Has anyone tried it yet? What did you think?

More Rite Aid Scenarios

I have been thinking about how time consuming it was to get started into the Rite Aid "game" and trying to figure out what deals were the best and where to start.

So if you are new, here are a couple ideas I had for getting you started.

1.) be sure to sign up for the wellness program
2.) be sure to watch the video values for this month (at least the $1 off purchase Rite Aid coupons to start)

Now for some deals to try this week:

Transaction #1

You could start with the revlon beauty tools deal.
They are 40% off and when you buy 2 you get $4 in +ups. There are emery boards, tweezers, and nail clippers that should be under $2 each. (Some are as low as $0.87 each after the 40% discount.
You'll use the $1 off Video Values coupon at check out. And then you shouldn't have to pay more than $2 or $3 depending on which tools you're able to find.

Then on your receipt will print a $4 +up and hopefully a code for the $3 off $15 coupon.

Transaction #2

Maybe you want another idea. You could buy 2 oral b 3D White toothbrushes $2.99 each.
So your total would be $5.98. You would then use the $1 Video Values coupon and 2 - $1.50 off oral b coupons from the 5/1 P&G insert in the Sunday paper. You'll pay $1.98 plus tax. And then your receipt will $4 in +ups from the toothbrushes. And again you can hope for a code for the $3 off $15.

If you are a little more seasoned, here are some more transactions I did this week.

Transaction #3

3 boxes of kelloggs cereal 10oz or bigger (frosted flakes will work) $1.99 each
2 nail clippers $1.80 each
2 oral b toothbrushes $2.99 each

Total: $15.55

I used $3 off $15
$1.50 off kelloggs from 4/10 RP
2- $1.50 off oral b
$8 in plus ups

That left $0.05 plus tax for me to pay and then I got 2- $2 +ups for the oral b and $4 +up for revlon.

Transaction #4

2 nail clippers $1.80 each
2 oral b toothbrushes $2.99 each
2 sunchips $5
1 Sierra Mist $1.25

Total $15.83

I used $3 off $15 survey coupon
2 - $1.50 off oral b from 5/1 P&G
$2/2 sunchips from special insert in 5/1 paper
free sierra mist wyb sunchips special insert 5/1
(The writing on this coupon says one per person, so I couldn't use 2 and get 2 free sodas)
$6 in +ups.

That left $0.83 plus tax for me to pay out of pocket. I got back 2- $2 +ups for oral b and $4 +ups for revlon. (That is $8 total back in +ups.)

Now, there are tons of scenarios. I only share some of my ideas to give you a place to start. You should pick things that will either help you make money and/or get what your family needs or wants.

How did you do this week?

Wegmans: accepting competitors coupons???

Well, Rochester folks I must apologize because this does not apply to us as far as I can tell.... but I have heard that stores in other areas like Buffalo and Syracuse are accepting Price Chopper and Tops coupons. I called my local store and they said that they were not accepting these. But I have heard from quite a few others in different locations that their store even had a sign up about it.

If you happen to live in an area that does accept competitors coupons will you please leave a comment and a location so we can get a list started of which stores we can use them at.... Depending on how far away I might be willing to drive.... hmmm

Frugal Fun: Headbands

Around Easter time I went looking for new headbands to put in my little love's basket. I was totally blown away when I saw the prices.... $8 for one headband because it had a flower glued to it???? There was no way that I would pay that price for just one headband. As I looked the hair accessories over, I decided that there was no reason that I couldn't make these myself. And so I set out on a mission to make some fun items for my love's gorgeous locks!!

So my goal was to see how many headbands I could make for under $8... and would they look as good as the store bought items.

I started at the dollar store. For $7 plus tax I bought the following:

1 bag of gem stones $1
4 plain headbands (2 packs of 2) $2
3 sets of fake flowers $3
1 package of butterflies $1

I already own a hot glue gun and had extra glue sticks. So I got to work. First I dismantled the fake flowers so that I only had the petals and center.

Some of the flowers needed a little something, so I added some gemstones. You can see in this blue flower that I added the stones in the center to dress it up a little.

Then I glued the flowers and butterflies off to the side to create a fun look for my blondie.

She loved the headbands so much that we plan to make more together and give as gifts. Plus I still have enough decorations to probably make 3 or 4 more. We will just need to get more headbands. This project was really a ton of fun. And it made her Easter basket look cool too.

(In this last photo some of the petals got caught under the headband. The flowers were really full with no "bald spots".)

I used:
